Message from Pamela

My name is Pamela McCarthy and I am a proud resident of Newmarket - Ward 2, where I live with my family of 4.

For the last 4 years, I have had the honour of serving as your Newmarket YRDSB Trustee and Board Vice-Chair, advocating for student achievement and well-being.

I’m running to bring a common-sense, perspective to Newmarket Council focused on safety, affordability, accountability and building community.

Platform

Safety

Every resident deserves a neighborhood that is safe, secure, and family-friendly. Pamela will work to:

  • Implement traffic calming measures to ensure safe streets for pedestrians, cyclists and children

  • Work closely with York Regional Police and community partners to address neighbourhood safety and property crime

  • Ensure our local parks, trails and public spaces are well-maintained, well-lit and safe for everyone

  • Strengthen local by-law enforcement to address community concerns quickly and effectively

Affordability

With the rising cost of living, Newmarket must remain a place where families and seniors can afford to live and thrive. Pamela will work to:

  • Advocate for responsible property tax rates that respect residents' hard-earned money

  • Support smart, sustainable development that includes housing options for young families and seniors

  • Champion Ward 2’s local businesses to keep our local economy strong and create jobs

  • Ensure municipal fees for recreation and town services remain accessible to all income levels

Accountability

Town Council must be transparent, responsible and disciplined with your tax dollars. Pamela will:

  • Scrutinize municipal budgets to eliminate waste and ensure value for money on all town projects

  • Ensure every council decision is measured against its direct benefit to Ward 2 residents

  • Demand transparency in town planning, zoning and development processes

  • Provide clear, accessible updates on how municipal funds are being allocated and spent

Community

Residents are the heart of Newmarket. A strong community requires a representative who listens and acts. Pamela will work to:

  • Return every resident phone call and email in a timely, respectful manner

  • Hold regular Ward 2 community meetings and listening sessions to hear your concerns directly

  • Champion inclusive, accessible community programs and recreational facilities

  • Foster a welcoming environment that celebrates Newmarket’s diversity and brings neighbours together
